An ideal Mandolin for beginner players and those discovering the instrument for the first time.

Based upon a recently discovered Barnes & Mullins 'Abbott' mandolin from the early 20th Century, the BM400 is a flat-back mandolin with a natural-finish solid spruce top and okoume back and sides. It delivers a balanced tone with good clarity, while its round sound hole ensures excellent volume and projection.

The Abbott is complete with a maple neck and ovangkol fingerboard, nickel hardware and an open slot headstock with side mounted geared tuners for easy tuning.

Flat back mandolins are a somewhat modern design in the lineage of the mandolin's history, having been developed in America in the late 19th Century. They are a great choice for beginner players and those discovering the mandolin for the first time. Their relatively straightforward construction (vs. more elaborate carved backs) means they are comparatively inexpensive but still deliver great playability and tone.

Irish, British, and Brazilian folk music styles are most commonly played on flat back mandolins.
